New York, NY (Tuesday, January 20, 2015): Ensuring the lives of foster care youth will get off to a strong start in the New Year, Macy’s has awarded a second grant to Mentoring USA to continue its Fostering Futures program. The grant will enable Mentoring USA to provide youth in foster care in New York City with a positive, caring adult mentor in their life. Mentoring USA is a leading national one to one site-based mentoring program that provides caring, trained mentors to young people ages 7-21, allowing them to realize their full potential.
January 15, 2015 (New York, NY) – Yesterday, Mentoring USA visited the Nasdaq MarketSite in Times Square. In honor of National Mentoring Month,representatives, partners and supporters from Mentoring USA and a few of its partners rang the Closing Bell.
Each week throughout National Mentoring Month, Mentoring USA is highlighting one program site where mentors serve as positive adult role models for youth in New York City. This week’s featured program site is New Alternatives for Children (NAC), whose mission is to provide innovative, high-quality services in support of birth, foster, and adoptive families caring primarily for children with severe physical, emotional, and behavioral challenges and developmental disabilities. NAC mainly supports children whose birth families live in poverty; by supporting families, NAC prevents lengthy stays in foster care, hospitals, or other institutions.
