New York, NY (Tuesday, January 20, 2015): Ensuring the lives of foster care youth will get off to a strong start in the New Year, Macy’s has awarded a second grant to Mentoring USA to continue its Fostering Futures program. The grant will enable Mentoring USA to provide youth in foster care in New York City with a positive, caring adult mentor in their life. Mentoring USA is a leading national one to one site-based mentoring program that provides caring, trained mentors to young people ages 7-21, allowing them to realize their full potential.

“We are honored and proud to continue our support of Mentoring USA,” said Margaret Grioli, Macy’s Vice President of Corporate Communications and Employee Giving. “Macy’s has a firm commitment to support America’s youth and Mentoring USA is the ideal partner for us with their tremendous experience in mentoring and their understanding of the unique set of challenges youth in foster care face.”

Macy’s generosity will allow Mentoring USA to continue its important programs for youth in foster care in New York City through its partnerships with organizations serving this population, including Good Shepherd Services, the Girls Leadership Institute, and New Alternatives for Children.

“Macy’s is an important Mentoring USA partner and we are very appreciative of their continued generosity,” said Stephen Powell, Mentoring USA’s Executive Director. “Through Macy’s support, we are able to continue our mission to help young people—particularly youth in foster care—by providing guidance and support that gives young people lifelong skills to enable them to be successful in school, work and life.

“Ninety nine percent of Mentoring USA’s mentees move on to the next grade level. We are very proud of this accomplishment and we look forward to helping more children in 2015 and beyond,” continued Powell. “We are also thrilled to announce this important partnership during National Mentoring Month, a month dedicated to showcasing the importance of youth mentoring. Shining the spotlight on youth in foster care has been an important focus for Mentoring USA’s Founder, Matilda Raffa Cuomo, since she started this organization more than twenty years ago. We are thrilled to continue this legacy thanks to Macy’s.”
