June 26, 2013- Mentoring USA has concluded another successful school year with 100% of mentees moving on to the next grade level for the third consecutive year. This school year 700 mentor-mentee pairs met regularly across the country. Students were able to engage with their mentors who can draw upon Mentoring USA’s renowned curriculum that focuses on fostering an appreciation for diversity, building self-esteem, maintaining a healthy lifestyle and financial literacy and responsibility.

Stephen Powell, Mentoring USA Executive Director, said, “We are excited to once again have all mentee participants move on to the next grade. This accomplishment shows having a meaningful adult mentor can truly make a difference in the life of a young person.”

Mentoring USA is a leading national provider of one-to-one site based mentoring for youth. This past school year, Mentoring USA was selected by NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg to be the exclusive mentoring organization partner for a new innovative wraparound mentoring program launched in partnership with the Young Men’s Initiative. In addition, Mentoring USA is partnering with the White House on the “Corporate Mentoring Challenge”, a program targeting youth in America’s lowest performing schools. Mentoring USA was also chosen as a partner for Lady Gaga’s recent Born Brave bus tour to empower youth.

In addition to providing support to ensure that Mentoring USA’s mentees all advanced to the next grade level for the third consecutive year, Mentoring USA’s programs have also had a significant impact on mentee’s lives in other areas:

Fifty-three percent (53%) of the youth who received a minimum of 5 months of mentoring program services increased their grade point average since the last school year
Seventy-two (72%) of the youth who received a minimum of 5 months of mentoring program services showed an improvement in school attendance since the last school year

Alex, a mentee at the Manhattan Dehostos-Wise Program said, “I don’t have a lot of adult men in my life so it’s nice to have my mentor. He listens to me and helps me understand how to achieve my goals.”

Mentoring USA currently serves the following cities with mentoring programs and technical assistance and support: New York City, Los Angeles CA, Costa Mesa CA, Wilmington DE, Orlando FL, Louisville KY, Chicago, IL, Silver Spring MD, Newark NJ, Plainfield, NJ, Las Vegas NV, Philadelphia PA and Houston TX. Mentoring USA also helps underserved children internationally through its affiliates Mentoring Italia and Mentoring Espana with mentoring programs in Europe, including in Italy, Spain, Morocco, Belgium and Latvia.
