December 1, 2014: The Nubian Union, a collaboration of The Nubian Center for Research & Development and Unity Missionary Investors, two non-profit organizations that have worked extensively in New Jersey and are launching programs in New York, is pleased to announce that its Chasing Stars Holiday Gala will take place at Gallagher’s Steakhouse, 228 West 52nd Street, New York City on December 8, 2014 at 6:30 PM.

The evening will feature the conferral of Nubian Union Legend awards on new honorees:

  • Stephen Powell: Executive Director of Mentoring, USA
  • Terrance McKnight: Weekday Evening Host and Musicologist of WQXR Radio
  • Shirell Gross, Esq.: Bergen County Chapter President, Jack & Jill
  • David Ushery: NBC News Anchor and Host of The Debrief
  • Sabrina Hannam, Esq.: Founder & Chair of the full-service Law Office of Sabrina Hannam, LLC

The Gustav Heningburg (former honoree) Lifetime Achievement Award will be conferred upon Msgr. William Linder, for his lifetime activism and advocacy for Black Civil Rights. Msgr. Linder is the founder and former CEO of New Community Corporation, a world-renown organization of community empowerment.

There will be a salute to deceased honorees, including: Gus Heningburg, Theral Edwards, founder of Nubian Dance Center, Jersey City and Delano Gordon, founder of Above the Rim, Newark, NJ.

The keynote speaker will be Dr. Teena Shetty, neurologist of New York Hospital for Special Surgery, who is triple-certified in neurology, neuromuscular medicine and electrodiagnostic medicine, conducting special studies in brain injury.

Proceeds will benefit The Anthony Fund for young men with head injuries and The Ruth Mills Scholarship Fund for young women.
